Join us on the opening day of the 2025 National Contemporary Art Award exhibition for a special floor talk with this year’s judge, Nigel Borell MNZM.

Nigel will share insights into his prize-winning selections, including the recipient of the prestigious $20,000 top prize. Hear about his experience with the blind judging process, the themes that emerged from the record-breaking 53 finalist entries, and his reflections on the bold and stylish works that define this year’s competition.

Nigel Borell is Curator Taonga Māori at Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira and of Pirirakau, Ngaati Ranginui, Ngaai Te Rangi, and Te Whakatoohea descent. With over 25 years of experience in the arts and culture sector, he was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2022.

This prestigious award, organised and hosted by Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum and Gallery, showcases the cutting edge of contemporary art in Aotearoa New Zealand through a fair, anonymised judging process.

Free entry. All welcome.
