About The Artist

John Miller is a pivotal figure in New Zealand photography. His lens has captured defining events such as the Māori Land March of 1975, Bastion Point Takaparawha 1977–78, and the recent Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti in 2024.

His work also spans anti-war demonstrations, opposition to the Vietnam War, and the 1981 Springbok Tour protests.

Miller’s photographs are more than images; they are visual testimonies of resilience and struggle, preserving stories for future generations.

His commitment to peace and social justice has earned him recognition, including the Arts Foundation Marti Friedlander Photographic Award (2009) and the Media Peace Award (2003).
