Donating Objects
Find out how to donate an object or taonga to Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum & Gallery.
How we decided what to collect
Te Whare Taonga o Waikato collects taonga and objects linked to Waikato. They may have been made in Waikato, be associated with iwi of the Waikato region, or other peoples and groups living in the Waikato, past or present.
We consider who made and used the item and its significance to their life story, and to Waikato.
It is important that we know who owns it now, and who has owned it in the past.
The object needs to be in a reasonably strong and sound condition, although it may be old.
If we already have the same or a similar object in our collection, we might not accept another example.
We have limited capacity to accept very large items.
Enquire about donating an object
Due to limited capacity, we are not currently accepting donated objects to our collection.
However, you may register your object for future consideration using this form.
We may not respond unless the object is of significance.
Please do not bring your object(s) to the museum unless you have been advised to do so by a member of our team.
