Keeping your kids entertained during the Easter school holidays is easy thanks to a collaborative activity guide and website produced by three of Hamilton’s best-loved visitor destinations, Hamilton Gardens, Hamilton Zoo and Waikato Museum Te Whare Taonga O Waikato.
Parents and caregivers will be able to take their pick of whaanau-friendly events ranging from face painting and scavenger hunts to conservation-focussed activities at all three venues. Hamilton City Libraries and Hamilton Pools are also joining the school holiday fun, rounding out a diverse range of daily activities.
Hamilton City Council’s Unit Director Visitor Destinations Lee-Ann Jordan says Council’s vision to make Hamilton a more attractive, safe and liveable city is reflected in the collaborative approach.
“We’re thrilled to be presenting another action-packed schedule at our public facilities for the April school holidays. Starting with the Easter long weekend, it’ll be two weeks of events and entertainment across Hamilton Kirikiriroa that will appeal to tamariki and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers,” she said.
The importance of enjoying and caring for our natural environment has emerged as a unifying theme across the three sites. Hamilton Zoo will host an exciting series of events every weekday, ranging from live music and living statues to a storytime session hosted by ‘safari explorers’. Visitors are also invited to explore the Waiwhakareke Natural Heritage Park, the lush 60-hectare reserve located across the road from the Zoo.
Waikato Museum carries on the theme, as its exclusive presentation of the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition draws to a close at the end of the holidays. Young visitors – and the young at heart – will be thrilled to learn that the first phase of the interactive science gallery, Exscite, has been relaunched with fresh new features.
At the award-winning Hamilton Gardens, the enclosed gardens will be even more enchanting than usual during Easter weekend. Keep an eye out for friendly bunny characters roaming with chocolate to giveaway!
The ‘Find Your Fun’ schedule also features events held in conjunction with Hamilton City Libraries, Hamilton Pools, and a focus on celebrating Earth Day on Saturday 22 April.
The activity guide is available as a printed schedule, a downloadable PDF document, or as an interactive calendar on the website: www.findyourfun.nz Information will also be shared on each destinations’ social media channels.
The fun kicks off at Hamilton Gardens, Hamilton Zoo and Waikato Museum on Friday 7 April and runs throughout the school holidays until Sunday 23 April.
