Caterina Riva has accepted an invitation to judge the 2012 National Contemporary Art Award, sponsored by Barry Hopkins and hosted by Waikato Museum.
The recently appointed director and curator at Artspace, Auckland was previously co-director and curator of FormContent, an innovative not for profit space she co-founded in East London (2007-2010).
Riva studied in Italy and the UK where she received her MFA in curating at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
Previously she was co-ordinator of the Advanced Course in Visual Arts for Fondazione Ratti in Como, Italy, from 2004 to 2008. Ms Riva participated in the sixth Berlin Biennale’s curatorial workshop (2010), before taking up a position as curator in residence at Gertrude Contemporary, Melbourne, Australia (2010).
Ms Riva has contributed as a writer to a number of artists’ books and publications, and to international art magazines.
Entries close for the 2012 National Contemporary Awards on 4 May 2012. The winner and three merit award winners will be announced at a gala opening on Thursday, 16 August before the exhibition opens from 17 August until 17 November at Waikato Museum.
