A fresh perspective is bringing local history alive with the relaunch of ‘Shaping Hamilton Huringa Kirikiriroa’ at Waikato Museum.

Artist Ricks Terstappen from Hawke’s Bay has won the top prize in this year’s Fieldays No.8 Wire National Art Award for his artwork “Connectivity”.

From hundreds of entries, 41 artworks have been selected as finalists for this year's National Contemporary Art Award.

The annual competition will be hotly contested, with 26 innovative artists vying for a prize pool worth more than $8,500.

A retrospective exhibition of landscape works by Margot Philips, one of the region’s most distinctive 20th century artists, will open on Friday 12 May 2023.

Twenty-six artists from across New Zealand have been named as finalists for the 2023 Fieldays No.8 Wire National Art Award.

Less than two weeks remain to enter the National Contemporary Art Award for 2023.

It is the first time Waikato Museum has been home to the world-renowned exhibition, which will not be touring anywhere else in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Waikato Museum’s interactive centre for discovery, Exscite, has undergone the first stage of an extensive redevelopment project to be revealed to the public from Saturday 1 April.

Keeping kids entertained during the Easter school holidays will be easy thanks to a collaborative activity guide and website produced by Hamilton Gardens, Hamilton Zoo and Waikato Museum.

Entries are open now and the judge will be highly respected arts curator and commentator Melanie Oliver.
