Recharted Realms by Kirikiriroa Hamilton artist Marion Manson is the 2025 winner of the Waikato Society of Arts Small Sculpture Award.
Manson's sculpture has been crafted from repurposed pages of the Reader’s Digest Great World Atlas - once essential, now superseded by Google Maps and abundant in op shops.
This upcycled work explores the fragility of memory and the resilience of discarded materials.
Its flexible hinged structure enables the piece to be displayed in different configurations.
With the help of hinges made of dyed bamboo skewers and linen thread, the paper is transformed into the three-dimensional form.
