Kerr Sharpe-Young is a Taranaki-based fossil hunter with a knack for finding extraordinary things while combing the Taranaki coastline.
His discoveries have contributed to published scientific research, including a fossilised penguin skull from three million years ago, the only one of its kind ever found.
He also hosts the viral “what’s in that rock” series with nearly 180,000 followers tuning in to share his fossil finds.
During this relaxed, drop-in session, Kerr will be in our Fossil Finds exhibition. See fossils from his own collection up close and hear the stories of their discovery. Bring any fossils you may have a home and see if Kerr can identify them. You can also ask him about his experience as an amateur fossil hunter, what it takes to get started, and where to look when you are next exploring the coastlines of Aotearoa.
