Explore science and art at the Museum these school holidays

Make the most of the summer holidays with our hands-on workshops that blend science and art.

Designed for children aged 8–14 years, these creative sessions run weekdays from 12–23 January. 

$50 per child per day, or $225 per child per week (use code SUMMER26 at checkout).

Please pack a lunch and water bottle for your child.

Week One

Wooly Wonders

Monday 12 January

9am - 3pm

Explore artworks in our galleries that use wool and textiles to tell a story, then create fun woolly crafts to take home, including your own woolly pet.

Toi Maaori

Tuesday 13 January

9am - 3pm

Celebrate ngaa hau e whaa o Taawhirimaatea (the four winds) with wind-inspired crafts such as puurerehua and manu tukutuku.

Includes access to Air Playground.

It’s Up in the Air!

Wednesday 14 January

9am - 3pm

Discover the wonders of air through STEAM activities and create toys and artworks that will blow you away. Includes access to Air Playground.

Origami Explosion

Thursday 15 January

9am - 3pm

Learn origami techniques with our origami expert, Yumi, and create beautiful folded designs.

Includes access to Air Playground.

Flower Power

Friday 16 January

9am - 3pm

Explore native plants along the river and craft colourful artworks using leaves, rocks, and flowers.

Nature Books (Day 1)

Monday 19 January

9am - 3pm

Create your own nature book using easy printmaking techniques. Linocut, relief prints, stencils, and stamps. We'll make stunning graphic art pages to compile in a small book the following day.

Nature Books (Day 2)

Tuesday 20 January

9am - 3pm

Create beautiful pages inspired by nature using sun-paper prints and rubbings from foliage collected by the river. Add words to your pages, then learn techniques to fold and bind them into a zine or book.

"Mask"-querade

Wednesday 21 January

9am - 3pm

Explore the history of masks and design your own mask-art to take home.

Our Amazing Awa

Thursday 22 January

9am - 3pm

Celebrate and explore the Waikato River through multimedia art and make a boat to float.

The Toymaker's Workshop

Friday 23 January

9am - 3pm

Create traditional toys and games while learning the science behind them. Includes access to Air Playground.
