Each mark and gouge made by printmaker Anthony Davies is part of a slow developing picture. Dedicated to his mother in her 96th year, the works in this exhibition depict images from the artist’s keen observations over years of watching the raw state of society. Recurrent themes gleaned from news reports in the newspaper, on radio and television, such as poverty, crime, surveillance, protest, rebuilding and utopia, inform his works. Davies sees and transcribes with a compassionate and critical eye; he offers no answers, just the bare truth.
