Spring into these school holidays
Spark curiosity these school holidays with two weeks of hands-on discovery at Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum & Gallery.
Designed for curious Meaning Children aged 8–14, each day offers a new adventure that blends creativity, culture, science, and storytelling.

28th Sep - 2nd Oct
Monday: Print-making Power!
Inspired by Robin White’s woodcuts, we will design and make our own lino cuts, before printing them and colouring them to take home.
Tuesday: Weaving Wonders
We will look around two weaving exhibitions and make some simple weaving shapes out of modern materials.
Wednesday: Our Amazing Awa
Waikato River is the theme of the day. We’ll create multimedia art that celebrates the awa and even make a boat to set float.
Thursday: Musical Fun
We will enjoy an interactive video game concert from American group Extra Lives. Then after lunch we will have a play with a variety of instruments.
Friday: Mini Masterpieces
We will learn the stories behind some of the public art around Hamilton, and make our own miniature versions to take home.
5th Oct - 9th Oct
Monday: Penguin Parade
Waddle we do? Make a range of penguin crafts and play some penguin–themed games!
Tuesday: Spooky Fun
Halloween is near! We will make some spooky decorations for your front door, as well as a mask to go with your costume.
Wednesday: Fabulous Fossils
Meet our Fossil expert Caleb for a tour of our Fossil Finds exhibition and make your own clay belemnite.
Thursday: Spring into Spring
We will make some colourful collages, using different textures and materials to reflect the flowers of spring.
Friday: Picture Perfect
We will look at the different ways taonga are framed and displayed throughout the museum, then make some photo frames and labels to turn your home into a museum!

What to bring
Please make sure your child brings a packed lunch and a water bottle.
Pick Up Times
Children will be ready for collection from 4.15pm onwards. If you need to pick up your child earlier, please let us know at check in. Children collected ater 4.30pm may incur an additional charge for extended supervision. of $10 per 10 minutes.
Code of Conduct
To help us create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, please let our team know about any behavioural needs or considerations when you book.
We have a zero-tolerance approach to:
- Foul language
- Physical violence
- Intentional damage to our space, tikanga, or taonga
If a child’s behaviour puts others or the Museum at risk, we may need to contact you for immediate pick-up. In some cases, this may affect future participation in our school holiday programmes.
Damage
By confirming your booking, you agree to cover the cost of any damage caused by your child’s misconduct.
