An invitation to look closer
Experience Waikato through a new perspective – one shaped by light, lenses, and time. Drawing from our rich photographic collection, Double Take: Waikato Through The Lens traces more than a century of images from the Waikato. From the earliest experiments with light and glass to the digital lenses of today, get a closer look at the history of photography and the stories that have been captured.
The power of photography
Photography has long been both witness and storyteller. It captures fleeting expressions, memorable events, and everyday moments, that leave a visual memory.
In Double Take, images of the Waikato's landscapes, people, and histories reveal how photography not only reflects reality, but also shapes how we understand it.
A century of change
Featuring celebrated New Zealand photographers including Laurence Aberhart, Ans Westra, and Robin Morrison, the exhibition explores the evolution of technique, technology, and artistic intent.
From formal portraits and rural scenes to aerial views and social movements, these works offer insight into the Waikato’s changing identity, cultures, and places.
