Pecha Kucha: Pride

Pecha Kucha is a Japanese storytelling format where each presenter shows 20 slides for 20 seconds each. The result is a rapid-fire evening of creative ideas, personal stories, and bold perspectives that keeps things moving and engaging.

The evening is led by our fabulous MC Benny Marama and features presentations from journalist and playwright Sam Brooks, visual artist Hollie Tawhiao, and iconic tattoo artist duo Cali and Lou.

This event is suitable for audiences 18 and over. Audience members under 18 must be accompanied by an appropriate adult.

Make a night of it

This event is part of our monthly Open Late evening.

Instead of closing at 5pm, Te Whare Taonga will be open until 9pm so that you can enjoy the exhibitions after-hours.

With drinks and nibbles available to purchase from our bar, you can get in the groove with a DJ.

Dining nearby

Is your puku rumbling? Make the most of Kirikiriroa Hamilton's central city dining located near the Museum.

Local business champions Love The Centre have a delicious list ranging from cozy cafes to fine dining establishments, or you can check out the curated guide created by Neat Places.

The fine print

Entry to Te Whare Taonga o Waikato Museum & Gallery is free, except for Exscite and some temporary exhibitions. If applicable, any existing charges still apply during extended hours.

Exscite is not included in the Open Late event and will be closed from 5pm as per usual operating hours.

Please take it as a compliment if you're asked to provide ID for proof of age when purchasing alcohol. Intoxicated persons will not be served.
